Agrilectric

Agrilectric Research is a manufacturer of calcined rice hulls, a product that accounts for approximately 20% of raw rice hulls by weight.

Calcined rice hulls are primarily used in two areas:

Filtration

Calcined rice hulls are used as a filtration material for all types of applications requiring the separation of solids from liquids. Calcined rice hulls are superior to other products due to their high porosity, which provides an extraordinary trapping capacity for solid particles in liquids, especially in water filtration processes.

Insulation

Calcined rice hulls have a much higher insulating capacity than other products. With an unburned carbon content of between 4 and 6% and crystalline silica values below 1.5%, calcined rice husk is widely used in steelmaking to cover the surface of molten steel in casting pots and tundishes. The product does not produce a flame, and its unburned carbon content not only prevents radiation losses but also provides heat when burned.

Using calcined rice husks as insulation to cover the surface of liquid steel in pots and tundishes provides the following benefits:

  • Radiation heat loss is reduced
  • Pour time is extended
  • Steel temperature is maintained longer
  • Metallic yield is increased
  • Calcined rice husks have a very low
  • density, making them easier to handle
  • Prevents steel rust
  • Coagulates pot or tundish slag
  • Reduces scale buildup on pots and tundishes
  • Reduces pouring temperature
  • Eliminates tundish coatings
  • The physical and chemical properties of calcined rice husks are completely compatible
  • Unburned carbon 5% average
  • Amorphous silica content 93% average
  • Moisture content less than 3%
